International Conference on “Development with Justice: The Bihar Experience

Original and unpublished research papers are invited from academicians, researchers and other stakeholders on the above theme for the conference to be conducted in a hybrid mode. The main objective of this conference is to analyse the implications of various social reforms measures undertaken by the Bihar government in the recent decades for wellbeing of the disadvantaged sections of the society such as the women, backward castes, tribes, minorities, landless, youth, old- aged, and so on, to ensure attainment of social justice in the process of development.

The indicative issues are: (1) Social Reforms: Rationale for social reforms; History of social reforms; Recent social reforms initiatives for wellbeing of the disadvantaged sections; Impact evaluation of various social reforms measures (e.g., complete liquor ban, promotion of girls’ education, by-cycle yojana for girls, anti-dowry campaign, child marriage prevention, digital literacy programme, training of women, women in police department, etc.). (2) Social Justice: Alternative perspectives on social justice; Recent social justice initiatives; Changing conditions of women and various social/religious groups following social justice interventions; Access to land, assets, education, health, employment, credit (financial inclusion) by the disadvantaged sections; Changing patterns of poverty and inequality among various social/religious groups; Conditions of migrant workers and their social protection; Gender inequality and women empowerment; Women empowerment through political participation in panchayats and municipalities; Gender budgeting; Women self-help groups and their livelihoods promotion; Promotion of female entrepreneurship; Land rights of women; Gendered violence and safeguards (crime against women, domestic violence, harassment at workplace, awareness building regarding legal rights, etc.); Protection of human rights of the disadvantaged communities.
