in Agriculture N Sen Gupta The whole debate on the mode of production in agriculture is not as fruitless as it is sometimes made out to be. It has its use in formulating the initial propositions of a programme for agricultural development If the propositions advanced in this paper are granted, then the present stage of agriculture in India may be described as one where though capitalism has come, the pre-capitalist mode is still prevalent and capitalist development is arrested primarily by the influence of imperialism.
