Experiences in India L C Schenk-Sandbergen The development of an episleniology of fieldwork has made both women and men more aware of the influence of personal characteristics of the fieldworker on the methods and objectives of the study. Numerous studies have explored the role gender plays in anthropological and sociological fieldwork. To what extent do these findings help us in analysing and understanding the experiences particularly of western female researchers working in the field in India?
