Technocratic Subversion of MGNREGA

Opaque technologies of attendance verifi cation and wage payments are at odds with constitutional rights.

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) workers from across the country have been peacefully protesting for over 60 days as part of a national consortium of labour organisations called NREGA Sangharsh Morcha. They demand (i) adequate funds for work and timely wages, (ii) release of pending funds to West Bengal, (iii) revocation of mandatory attendance using the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) app, and (iv) revocation of wage payments using the Aadhaar-based payment systems (ABPS).
