Protecting Eco-sensitive Zones in India

On 3 June 2022, a Supreme Court bench led by Justice L Nageswara Rao and comprising Justices B R Gavai and Aniruddha Bose ruled that
each protected forest, that is, national park or wildlife sanctuary, must have an ESZ [Eco-sensitive Zone] of at least one kilometre measured from the demarcated boundary of such protected forest in which the activities prescribed in the guidelines of 9 February 2011, shall be strictly adhered to.
