Uddhav Thackeray took everyone by surprise when he became the chief minister of Maharashtra in November 2019. This in itself makes the book under review of interest.

Events in the last few months (of 2019 and beginning of 2020) have completely changed the profile of the Thackeray, cousins since the book’s publication. Uddhav seems a changed man and has now won support from a section of liberals, with his strong stand against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A coalition government of the Shiv Sena, the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has come into being in the wake of high levels of opportunism. Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) fared badly in the 2019 assembly elections. He had won a lot of hearts during the Lok Sabha election campaign by specifically targeting Narendra Modi and Amit Shah with telling video clips, but that has changed.
