Global Education as the Driver of Human Transformation?

The New Wealth of Nations by Surjit S Bhalla offers a large intellectual fare interspersed with historical perspectives, theoretical undercurrents, and detailed empirical exercises, marrying varied ideas into a chosen theme: “It is about the course of prosperity over the last three hundred years, and the important role played by education in helping the poor countries move towards convergence with the rich countries” (p 49). The book is full of quotable quotes on this theme: “I regard education as the most transformative force in human history” (p 146); “Education is the springboard for faster and more efficient globalisation” (p 169); and “Education to the people is (economic) power to the people” (p 84).
