Violence by CPI (Maoist)


The Peoples Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR) condemns the series of incidents triggered by members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist)—CPI (Maoist) in the Bastar sambhag region of Chhattisgarh in just over a fortnight.

On 8 November 2018, four civilians and one Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) head constable were killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in a bus hired by the CISF for their use during the election, near Bacheli in Dantewada. Two other CISF personnel were grievously injured. On 7 November 2018, a former sarpanch and a local member of the CPI, Dhurva Kalmu, out on election campaign, was killed in Bodko village under the Phoolanbagdi police station in Dantewada. On 6 November 2018, a bus carrying 35 passengers was intercepted between Jagdalpur and Usoor. The passengers were asked to get off and the bus was set on fire.
