Kathua Horror

The EPW editorial, “Remember Kathua” (14 April 2018), has asked an important question: “Stop and ask, can depravity, brutality and injustice be justifi ed by religion and politics?” The answer is yes, the Kathua case is a clear example of the barbarism, cruelty, hatred and insensitivity emerging from a communal mindset. However, the courage of the investigating officer, the victim’s lawyer, and the role played by the media, especially social media, in the face of this are commendable, leading to the culprits fi nally being booked.
