Rehabilitate the Innocent

Investigation of all crimes, particularly those involving national security ­issues, should be efficient and painstaking in order to apprehend the guilty and minimise the possibilities of innocent persons being implicated. Unfortunately many innocent persons are frequently implicated in India. What is worse, there is a tendency to go on prolonging the painful injustice even when facts confirming the innocence of those incarcerated are revealed.

Unfortunately many innocent persons are frequently implicated in India. What is worse, there is a tendency to go on prolonging the painful injustice even when facts confirming the innocence of those incarcerated are revealed.

Perhaps there is reluctance to acknowledge errors and mistakes on the part of the powerful. However, democracy and justice can be strengthened only by admitting such mistakes as soon as possible and then taking adequate steps to ensure the release and rehabilitation of the innocent.
