No Redemption for Children

The Union Cabinet’s decision to allow child labour below the age of 14 years in family enterprises and in audio–visual entertainment industry, including advertisements, films, television serials or any such other entertainment is a regressive move.

We strongly condemn this move which will create loopholes for violation of the ban on child labour, even before the government has brought out the legislation. The labour ministry and the cabinet have completely negated the voice of child rights advocates of this country and the recommendations of the Parliament Standing Committee on Labour.
