Public Health Human Resource

Public health human resources is a crucial component of any public health system. The creation of a new public health cadre would result in better public health management and workers who are able to deal with changing public health priorities.

Public health human resources (HR) is a crucial component of the public health system for facilitating healthcare delivery. In developing countries (like India), the progress of public health has been relatively slow, partly owing to inadequate emphasis on public health HR (WHO 2006) and partly because quantitatively inadequate health HR is an acknowledged weakness of the public health system, especially in the rural areas. The Health Survey and Planning Committee (1961) recommended the creation of an all-India health service to deal with health problems comprehensively. In 2011, a high level expert group (HLEG) on universal health coverage (UHC) recommended strengthening public health HR to provide easily accessible and affordable healthcare (Planning Commission 2011). However, it has not yet been implemented.
