Recent incidents in the United States raise fears of a renewed bigotry and discrimination that could increasingly fuel racial and cultural hatred.
The caller didn’t use then-word, but he came pretty close. “Skinny black guy” is how someone described Sureshbhai Patel during an emergency call to 911 on 6 February. That call brought officer Eric Parker and his partner to the quiet suburban street in Madison, Alabama, the US, where Patel was out for a walk. Minutes later, Parker suddenly slammed Patel to the ground, leaving the 58-year-old grandfather paralysed.
It’s a hard thing to watch, captured as it was on a dashcam and YouTubed.
