In the appreciation of Nirmal Chandra (EPW, 10 May 2014), we wrote that, K T Chandy, the fi rst director of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) brought together in the 1960s some bright and heterogeneous scholars, among whom Nirmal Chandra was one. We also mentioned that Ishwar Prasad and Kamala Chowdhury were members of that group.

N Krishnaji has pointed out that there was no Ishwar Prasad at IIMC at the time and Kamala Chowdhury was not on the faculty. The reference to Ishwar Prasad was to Ishwar Dayal. And Kamala Chowdhury was not on the faculty but she was a Ford Foundation consultant to IIMC and often visited the institute. We stand corrected.
