No Longer an Option

Nirbhaya is a play that allows women to overcome, in a raw and untamed manner, a history of silent suffering at the hands of depraved men.

 

Someone I know well spent her childhood in what most of us would think of as safe, happy surroundings. Essentially a gated community, it is populated by people of similar means and background. For that reason, everybody there takes it for granted that they can trust the others: they are so much alike in so many respects.

Except, it wasn’t quite so safe. Over the years, an older man, patriarch of one of the families there, has – and to hell with the effete euphemisms like “felt up” – stuck his fingers in the panties of almost every young girl who grew up there. The person I know well included. Over the years, these women, now, have compared notes and gradually comprehended the extent of the man’s crimes.
