Regrettable Error

This is with reference to my article “Insulting Facts with Fiction to Suit One’s Narrative” (EPW, 27 July 2013) which was my perspective on the Kashmiri Pandit migration. An unfortunate error has crept into this article where I have described Sualeh Keen (who had earlier written on this topic “Inconvenient People”, 8 June 2013) as an “Extremist Pandit”. This qualification had originally been meant for a separate sentence where the genocide and ethnic cleansing propaganda was dealt with but remained in the copy while I was trying to fit it into my given word limit. Keen is not a Pandit, but he is a Kashmiri from South of Kashmir. This unwanted error has unnecessarily caused a misunderstanding about his faith and detracts from the substantial points made in the article, which was about the need for finding a common ground for reconciliation. An unnecessary controversy has been created over this and baseless allegations are being levelled against me on various social media sites. I regret that Sualeh Keen had to read the phrase “Extremist Pandit” and want to state that it was not meant to cause hurt.
