After a steep fall in 2008-09 to 2.5% from a high of 15.5% in 2007-08, growth in the overall index of industrial production (IIP) recovered in the subsequent two years to 5.3% (2009-10) and 8.2% (2010-11). The IIP showed a decline, however, to 2.9% in 2011-12 and up to February during 2012-13 it went further down to a meagre 0.9%, amounting practically to near stagnation. The mining sector has shown absolute declines during 2011-12 and 2012-13 (up to February). The performance of electricity index was relatively better though the growth rate fell from 8.7% to 4.0% over the same period.
