Macroeconomic Indicators

The advance estimates of kharif production in 2012-13 show that both foodgrains and commercial crops have suffered from an erratic monsoon. Foodgrain production is estimated to decline by 9.8% to 117.2 million tonnes in 2012-13 against the production of 129.9 million tonnes in 2011-12. The decline is reflected both in cereals and pulses. Oil seeds production is expected to decline for a second consecutive year by 9.6% on top of the decline of 5.2% in the previous year. Cotton and sugar cane production are also expected to show a decline of 5-6% in kharif 2012-13.
