Macroeconomic Indicators (25 June 2011)

The trend in the index of industrial production with base 2004-05 shows an overall pick-up in industrial activity. The growth in the general index after declining from 15.6% in 2007-08 to 2.5% in 2008-09 increased to 5.3% in 2009-10 and further to 8.2% in 2010-11. This is in contrast to the index with a base of 1993-94, which showed a slowdown from 10.5% in 2009-10 to 7.8% in 2010-11. There is a stark difference in the growth of capital goods between the two indices.
