Macroeconomic Indicators (18 June 2011)

A noticeable development in recent times has been the convergence of the inflation rates measured by the consumer price indices and that measured by the wholesale price index. The WPI inflation rate for April 2011 was 8.7%, while the CPI for industrial workers and agricultural labourers for the same month were 9.4% and 9.1%, respectively. The related inflation rates for April 2010 showed a wider difference: 10.9%, 13.3% and 15.0%, respectively. This is attributable mainly to food price inflation which is lower now than a year ago carrying a larger weight in the consumer price indices.
