Macroeconomic Indicators (30 April 2011)

The third advance estimates of agricultural production show that foodgrains production during 2010-11 increased by 8.1% to 235.88 million tonnes, creating a new record, against a decline of 7% in the previous year. While production of cereals increased by 7.4% to 218.59 million tonnes, the record foodgrains production was made possible by the increase in production of pulses by 17.9% to 17.29 million tonnes during the same period. Commercial crops too performed better, production of most of the crops increasing by more than 20% against substantial declines in the previous year.
