The second advance estimates of agricultural production for 2010-11 depict an overall turnaround with foodgrain production growing by 6.4% against a decline of 7% in 2009-10, thanks essentially to kharif output. Among commercial crops, a significant turnaround was observed in oilseeds (11.9% growth in 2010-11 against a decline of 10.2% in 2009-10) and cotton ( 40% jump against a modest growth of 8.7%). The production of jute and mesta, however, declined by 14.7% in 2010-11 compared with an increase of 14% in 2009-10.
