We take much pride in our parliamentary democracy, but we do not seem to realise how bit by bit this democracy really has become, to paraphrase what the previous generation of Naxalites said it, “a pig sty”.

The very obvious signs we all acknowledge – unaccountability, loot of the state, “family business” and subversion of both the administrative and judicial systems. But what about the small things that are gradually becoming symptoms of something larger?
