Wages of Optimum Health

This is with reference to the article, “The Missing Mission in Health” (EPW, 6 February).

Poverty remains widespread in India as shown by the United Nations Development Programme Human Development Report (2009), National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (2006), Utsa Patnaik (EPW, 28 July 2007) and the Planning Commission (Suresh Tendulkar, 2009) despite its large human and physical resources.

We still see epidemics and infectious diseases treatment dominating the public health budget. There are many reasons for the failure in health since 1947.
