The third advance estimates show a higher foodgrain output in 2009-10 at 218.2 million tonnes compared to the second advanced estimate of 216.9 million tonnes, mainly due to higher cereal production. Among commercial crops, most of the oilseeds showed a downward revision: groundnut production (55.3 to 53.8 lakh tonnes), rapeseed and mustard (74.3 to 65.9 lakh tonnes) and the total nine oilseeds (263.2 to 254.1 lakh tonnes). Cotton and sugar cane output showed improvements to 228.3 lakh tonnes (223.2 lakh tonnes earlier) and to 2,746.6 lakh tonnes (2,512.7 lakh tonnes), respectively.
