Trade data for April 2010 show an all-round improvement from a year ago. Total exports increased by 36.2% compared to a decline of 22.9% in April 2009; and total imports increased by a huge 43.3% against a fall of 23.2%. Due to the higher growth of imports, the trade deficit widened from $6.65 billion to $10.42 billion during the month, and in terms of rupees, from Rs 33,313 crore to Rs 46,370 crore. Non-POL imports also increased by 34.4% compared to a decline by 11.0%.
