LARSEN & TOUBRO Restructuring Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has demerged its cement unit, which is now called Ultra-Tech Cemco. L&T, with a leaner balance sheet but stronger product portfolio focuses on construction, turnkey project execution, heavy engineering, industrial machinery and products and electrical and electronics. The company has discontinued the operations of its Powai packaging unit and disinvested its glass container business. Its emphasis on restructuring to cater for the needs of international clientele has resulted in a fivefold increase in its international business; besides shielding it from fluctuations in the domestic market.
