Outsourcing Attraction The leather sector holds the promise of turning out to be yet another big outsourcing story for India. Last year, small-scale industry reservation for leather products was withdrawn, opening up the way for foreign direct investment (FDI) in the sector. Several European countries are preparing to relocate their manufacturing facilities to low-cost centres in Asia, which already supply most of the finished leather for the world market. India thus has a chance to attract some of this investment directly, and also to supply components to other manufacturing units being set up in Asia. India
