Politics and Priorities When the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Schemes (MPLADS) was instituted in 1993, its aim was to enable every MP to address local development issues and on creating assets of a durable nature. Since 1993, when funds allotted to MPs under the scheme stood at Rs 5 lakh every year, the amount has grown to Rs 2 crore per annum.
