The last one year has seen a steady chorus of complaints against commercial banks with several questions being raised in parliament with respect to their investment and lending behaviour. Rather than examining and addressing the issues raised carefully, which as a regulator of banks it should have, the RBI has instead through some of its recent pronouncements and actions merely added to the confusion that prevails in this regard.
