State, Identity Movements and Internal Displacement in the North-East

Assam has been a shared homeland of various religious, ethnic, linguistic and cultural groups. Ignoring this historical reality, the Indian state and some identity movements have been the major actors in the massive internal displacement of people in Assam. This article focuses on the problem of internal displacement resulting from conflict in Assam and the north-east.
