Jharkhand : Marginalisation of Tribals

The formation of the state of Jharkhand is the culmination of a 200-year old struggle by the people of the region. Statehood, however, may not ensure the development of the region's original inhabitants, the tribals; mainline parties with an eye on vote-banks have ensured the continued dominance of the trader-bania nexus, and tribals themselves are divided by ever-deepening cleavages.
