Productivity of Crises

This paper is a historical study of the cholera inoculations. The paper examines the responses of the scientific community and the colonial administration to cholera. It gives a detailed account of the process by which the inoculations were developed in the laboratory and then tested in the field. The emphasis in this paper is to show how the notion of experiment is articulated and how crises can be occasions for experimentation - both scientific and administrative.
