Sources of Economic Growth

This article examines variations in the size, income and structural characteristics of Indian states. It analyses total and per capita net state domestic product for the period 1970-71 to 1995-96. Sectoral analysis shows that reform in agriculture will yield the most benefit as growth in this sector is positively and significantly related to overall growth. Infrastructure and human development are other important determinants.
