Dharma Kumar - II
.
What AM has written in his
Calcutta Diary (March 4) is either a pen-portrait of Dharma Kumar with a touch of malice or a Calcuttan’s curse on Bombay-Delhi liberals, meaning non-Marxists. It’s a revelation that a Calcuttan Marxist (AM) has not outgrown the old-fashioned Indian’s superstitious self. For example, the concluding thought he has is: “But even those born with a silver spoon in their mouth cannot escape destiny...Pardon the shocking parallel, her state of nothingness has an eeric resemblance to the shambles the country is currently in” (emphasis added).
