GNFC Effective Cost-Cutting Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Corporation ( GNFC), a major name in fertilisers, and industrial chemicals battled adverse factors such as a severe decline in imported urea sales income from Rs 126 crore to Rs 56 crore, economic slow down and south-east Asian turmoil to post an admirable performance in the year to March 31, 1999. This is largely owing to an all-round cost-cutting exercise and economies of scale from full utilisation of productive capacity. Raw material consumption was down 3.6 per cent, other manufacturing expenses 7.3 per cent and other expense 19.5 per cent in the year.
