V K R V Rao

The article by D U Sastry providing    additional information about the economic ideas of V K R V Rao (November 20, 1999) contains two minor errors. The name of the ICSSR’s counterpart in the field of science and technology is the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and not the Indian Council of Scientific Research.

The name also suggests that its activities are not limited to the field of physical sciences only as mentioned by him. The name of the economist who was closely associated with the founding of the Delhi School of Economics (DSE) is B N Ganguly, later to become the pro-VC of the Delhi University. Readers interested in the history of the formative years of DSE may like to read the two articles by P N Dhar and K N Raj, included in the collection D School: Reflections on the Delhi School of Economics (Oxford University Press, 1993). The fraternity concept, now sadly missing in our academia, was mooted by V K R V Rao to develop fraternal spirit among the teachers and students of DSE.
