Japan : History Textbooks: Continuing Controversies

Authors of school textbooks have more freedom in writing about Japan's past than they did in the 1960s, although the system of state censorship continues to operate. Recent attempts to change the content of social science textbooks, especially in history, are prompted by a concern about how the Japanese have been taught to see themselves so far.
