EPW Research Foundation TATA TEA All-Round Growth TATA TEA, a leader in the Indian tea industry, performed well in 1996-97. The company is a primary producer of bulk tea and has also successfully launched value added branded tea during the last six years. The company posted a 29.5 percent increase in operating profit on a 32.9 per cent increase in net sales. Despite a sharp rise in interest charges (up 74.3 per cent) and a 26 per cent increase in depreciation charges during the year under review, the company managed to earn a 27.2 per cent higher net profit for the year.
