CEAT-Excess Capacity

Project Delays ISPAT INDUSTRIES (formerly known as Nippon Denro Ispat), a Mittat group company, is engaged in manufacturing sponge iron (at Dolvi in Maharashtra), cold rolled coils/sheets (CRC), galvanised plain and corrugated sheets (GP/GC) and PVC coated sheets (all facilities at Nagpur). The company commands a dominant 40 per cent of the sponge iron market. Although the company is in the same line of business as majors like Tisco, Essar and Lloyds, it claims that its product lines are completely different and that it is not competing with such major companies, its chief aim being to produce value added products.
