Nawabpet Killings

ON July 26,1998 the Andhra government's Greyhounds police raided Nawabpet village in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh and Cruelly and cold-bloodedly murdered members of a trade union squad eight people in all, including a lady belonging to the house in which the squad had taken shelter. This murder has been depicted as an 'encounter' by the police. The 'dalam' had taken shelter in the house of the sarpanch at midnight on July 25. An informer informed Greyhound police superintendent Vinay Kumar Singh in the afternoon on July 26. Vinay Kumar Singh reached Nawabpet in a bus with a posse of 50 policemen and halted the bus a little away from the house in which the dalam was and surrounded the house. Without giving any Earning to the inmates of the house hand grenades were thrown on the house. The police also opened fire on the house. The whole house was pock-marked with bullet holes. Though the dalam was imirdered by the police in the house, to give credence to its story, of an encounter the police threw the bodies here and there spread Over a small area. By all accounts it was a fake encounter, actually a bloody massacre.
