By joining the Paris Convention we will be bound to allow patents registered in any of the signatory countries to become effective in India. Will we not thereby be endangering our existing industries as well as the scope for further industrialisation? The adverse consequences would be felt in particular in the pharmaceutical industry, which has been the beneficiary hitherto of our non- recognition of product patents.
