But the ruling Left Front cannot satisfy all. As a result, disgruntled sections of this apolitical generation of the West Bengal rural youth can be easily manipulated by tub-thumpers like Mamata Banerjee and, what is more dangerous, roused by the BJP into anti-Muslim frenzy (as evident from riots which had occurred in the districts bordering Bangladesh from where destitutes migrate to these districts in search of jobs). The CPI(M), the leading partner in the Left Front, responds to this alienation of the rural youth by terror tactics, which explains the outbreak of violence in the West Bengal countryside during and after the panchayat elections.
