Successful Realignments IF there is an election result which obstructed the march of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies to power in the 12th Lok Sabha elections, it was the stunning verdict in Maharashtra against the ruling BJP SS alliance. The BJP and its allies secured 250 seats at the centre, falling short by 23 seats of an absolute majority, These 23 seats were snatched by the Sharad Pawar-led Congress alliance with the Republican Party of India (RPI) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Maharashtra, reducing the BJP-SS alliance tally in the state from 33 seats in the dissolved Lok Sabha to a mere 10 seats.
