Culture and Religion THIS is in response to Ashok Chowgule's letter (November 2,1996). Chowgule writes: "What are the distinctive features which separate them [Muslims] from Hindus...in this country? Obviously the main characteristic is their belief in Allah...which is the central feature of Islam." But since the culture of Indian Muslims is different from that of Muslims of other countries, "the cultural roots of Muslim citizens of India are outside geographical borders".
