EPW Research Foundation BAJAJ AUTO Growing Competition THE two-wheeler major, Bajaj Auto, managed a 3.6 per cent increase in its bottomline in 1996-97 on a 15.5 per cent increase in net sales over the previous year. The lower increase in net profit can be attributed to the sharp increases in depreciation charges (up 59.9 per cent) and tax provision (up 33.6 per cent) during the year. At the operating level, however, the company performed well notching an 18.4 per cent increase in operating profit during the same period. Interest charges too were lower by 26.2 per cent over the previous year.
