CREDIT POLICY-Inadequate Measures

Some hopes were raised when in 1982, the central government directed the state governments to plan appropriate legislation to regulate the working conditions and to provide for welfare of agricultural workers. But only one state, Tripura, responded by enacting the Tripura Agricultural Workers Act, 1986, thus becoming the second state to have a legislation for agricultural workers, the other state being Kerala, which passed its Agricultural Workers Act in 1974.
