A WORKSHOP of professionals associated with the power sector deliberated on a wide range of issues pertaining to the electricity system of India on March 3 and 4, 1997. It noted with distress the perilous state of the power sector and its steady policy-induced collapse since the Seventh Plan. The workshop also debated the evolving official approaches to the resolution of the present power crisis and concluded that they arc not sustainable, cost-effective, resource- conserving, nor in the public interest.
