Muslims in Electoral Politics Sanjay Kumar Muslims have generally been regarded as a vote bank for the Congress and have tended to vote en bloc. On the basis of a micro-level study of five constituencies in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh during the 1993 assembly elections, this paper argues that the Muslim community is no longer an electoral monolith and there are differences in the voting behaviour of its members in terms of socio-economic status, educational attainments, occupational structure and mobility patterns, etc.
