EPW Research Foundation COLGATE PALMOLIVE (INDIA) Strategic Acquisition COLGATE PALMOLIVE (INDIA) was originally 100 per cent owned by Colgate Palmolive USA, but FERA regulations saw Colgate Palmolive reduce its holding to 40 per cent in 1978 with 60 per cent of its holding being sold to the Indian public. The company closed the year ended March 1995 with a sales turnover of 625 crore, up by 14 per cent from Rs 546 crore in the previous year. With Rs 10 crore from sale of surplus land and from sale of investments, the company ended up with a net profit of Rs 72 crore, up by 25 per cent from Rs 58 crore in the preceding year.
